The Gevalia G90 uses the same size coffee pods as the much higher priced Senseo machine. This will allow you to find pods in most grocery and big chain stores without much effort. If you have been considering a single serve coffee maker this is the cheapest way to find out if that type of machine is right for you.

A recent study by a Bonn, Germany team has found that World of Warcraft players take in nearly 1 ounce of coffee per hour of WoW game play. This far exceeded the second place Age of Empires PC gamers who came in at a little over one half ounce per hour. In 2009 World of Warcraft was the largest massive multiplayer online role-playing game with over 11 million monthly subscriptions.

The study also broke down coffee consumption by video game console. PlayStation 3 players came in first in putting down the largest amount of coffee per hour. Xbox 360 players were a close second with the Wii console a far distant 3rd place.

On another German note the market research company Media Control GfK recently reported that Germany has overtaken the U.K. as the largest market for video games in Europe. The report cites strong sales in Germany during the first half of 2009 versus a 20 percent drop in U.K. game sales last year. The Wii Fit, which has dominated the German sales charts since the beginning of the year, is credited for Germany’s overtaking the UK.
The DCC-1200 Brew Central makes up to 12 cups, in a brushed stainless steel exterior and elegant, taller-than-usual glass carafe. The charcoal water filter ensures great tasting coffee by removing impurities in the water. Also features a 24-hour advanced brew setting, automatic shutoff, self-cleaning function, and an audible beep that signals the end of the brew cycle , though quit loud.

The Cuisinart DCC-1200 has the style, use, and design of this coffee maker I love. However, I am not a fan of the taste! I have tried adding more grounds, less grounds, with the metal basket, without, you get the idea, and the coffee either tastes weak and a bit metallic, or funky strange with the bit metallic. Like it is being brewed with spring water that has had minerals added which is good for drinking by itself, but I prefer my tap water for coffee. I drink my coffee black, so I taste the brew, not creamer, sugar, milk, sweetener.

I would give the Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffee Maker 3 out of 5 stars.

Stewart Lee Allen’s coffee book is about his travels around the world in search of the history of coffee. Much of his info on the history of coffee in Europe is a recitation of more staid histories of coffee. Allen spends most of his travels looking for either the best or worst cup of coffee.

This coffee book is a rather crazy, but interesting, travelogue that loosely related to the spread of coffee from Africa to the rest of the world. It will keep you entertained and is well worth reading. Even though it is a true history on coffee origins the book leans more toward his fun times Allen had on his journey.

I would give it 4 out of 5 stars since I liked the adventures as much as the coffee facts.

Coffee Joke - At the call center where my wife works they all share the same coffeepot. One morning she took it into the ladies room to fill it with water. Then she began primping in front of the mirror, brushing her hair and reapplying her makeup. She didn’t realize how long she had in there until someone slid a note under the door. “You win,” it read. Any ransom demand will be met. Just release the coffeepot.”

When we first got the coffee maker home I was a bit concerned that it felt cheaply made, but it’s held up well after about 20 uses. It has a small footprint on the counter and brews a surprisingly good cup of coffee. The permanent filter works well with a medium grind but don’t go to fine if you don’t want specks of coffee beans in the bottom of your mug.

Some people have complained about about coffee grinds flowing over the top sides of the basket. Black & Decker recommends 2.5 tbsps of coffee but I have been able to get away with 3.5 tbsps and it not overflow. I once went to 4 tbsps but it poured over and ruined my morning cup so keep it within reason and you will be O.K.

One great thing about the Black & Decker Brew ‘N Go is no carafe to clean out. Just throw your coffee mug in the dishwasher and your done.

These fruits must then be hand-picked from trees which can bear flowers, green fruit, and ripe cherries all at the same time.

The outer layers of the coffee cherry are removed to reveal 2 beans, which are then cleaned, dried, graded and gone over by hand. Coffee beans range in color from pale green to dark yellow when raw. Coffee beans are exported in their raw state for roasting, blending and grinding at their final destination. Most coffee beans you will find in stores are Coffea robusta and Coffea arabica.

• Standard American roast: beans are medium-roasted, resulting in a moderate brew, not too light or too heavy in flavor.

• French roast and dark French roast: heavily-roasted beans, a deep chocolate brown which produce a stronger coffee.

• Italian roast: glossy, brown-black, strongly flavored, used for espresso.

• European roast: two-thirds heavy-roast beans blended with one-third regular-roast.

• Viennese roast: one-third heavy-roast beans blended with two-thirds regular-roast.

• Instant coffee: a powder made of heat-dried freshly brewed coffee.

• Freeze-dried coffee: brewed coffee that has been frozen into a slush before the water is evaporated, normally more expensive that instants but with a superior flavor.

• Decaffeinated coffee: caffeine is removed from the beans before roasting via the use of a chemical solvent (which disappears completely when the beans are roasted) or the Swiss water process which steams the beans and then scrapes off the caffeine-laden outer layers.
